Scrolling through Instagram this week I was captivated by a post by the Australian baker and writer Dan Lepard (if you’re unfamiliar with his book Short and Sweet: The Best of Home Baking, I recommend seeking it out.Truthfully, it’s the only baking book you really need.) Dan explained that his 93-year old mum had been given a bag of kumquats and he was looking forward to making marmalade with her. The opportunities left to prepare food together, he said, were running out.
