Authors are being exploited for profit by tech giants in acts of mass theft. But what can we do?
I had a feeling one of my books would be there.
When a stream of Instagram posts started popping up on my timeline referring to a piece in The Atlantic about generative AI and book theft, I had to look myself up using the free search tool in the article. And there I was: eight of my cookbooks were among the 191,000 or more books that had been used without permission to train generative-AI systems by Meta, Bloomberg, and others.
