The French have made a couple of contributions to the culinary arts 😂 and among their crowning achievements is the cheese board, now firmly embedded in the eating rituals of Britain, Australia and beyond. It was born, apparently, in Paris in 1916 at a luncheon that concluded with a course of Roquefort, Port Salut and Gruyere. There’s an interesting article here about the history of the cheese board (in the unofficial student newsletter of the Melbourne Law School of all places). Also, another piece worth reading is here if the history of food served on boards rings your bell.
