Thanks Fiona. Next time you're in Dorset we should go to Terroir Tapas. It would be very interesting to know what you think of their wine list (only local English if I'm not mistaken).
Thank you, a fascinating read. I wonder how many people - like me - fall into two camps with reviewers/reviews...on the one hand give me a short pithy review to help me decide, on the other give me Marina (:plus one or two others) whose words I want for the pleasure of the writing
I definitely fall into two camps, and the really good reviews have it all: practical info, deep food knowledge and wit. It's the self-important ones that drive me nuts.
Absolutely enjoyed reading your article. Sad that some restaurants have to rely on PR. No wonder there’s such a turnover. What I would say is I’d rather go to a restaurant recommended by someone like you rather than a Giles Coren type. On the Dorset topic I was delighted to be able to get a table at short notice at Jesse Wells’ restaurant last month. He truly deserves his green Michelin star. All about local seasonal ingredients and not fancy decor.

It was interesting, wasn't it? Also interesting that J Rayner actively opposes the gentrification of Brixton #potkettleblack

Very interesting, especially that interview with Ho, which I didn’t know about and has made me think.
Good piece. I regularly feel conflicted too. (But happy to schlep to Bournemouth!)
