Love it or hate it, more and more Instagrammers are filming themselves eating. I explain why they're doing it and what it's got to do with porn. Plus a tasty warming recipe.
The content should be authentic to the individual and feel comfortable for them. Although eating reels can be a shortcut to growth, this explains why some who avoid it completely also seem to grow just fine. Social media platforms will come and go, but personal brands are hard won. So, focus on what true to you and go with that! I am in the won't eat to selfie video camp sadly, and if that means fewer followers then so be it
I think some people prioritise branding and growth because social media is part of their business. Others just want to be social, connect with like-minded people and/or display photos of things that interest them. The problem is platforms punish you for the latter.
This is an absolutely fascinating read. Thank you Sue.
Argh, I find Instagram reels difficult. I've been advised countless times that I need to get in front of the camera to promote my fledgling cake business. I am a quite shy/introverted person who, like you, would rather hide behind the words and images. I don't think I'll ever be able to include a video of me eating, but I am working up to videos of me baking. It's good to hear other accounts have done well with just that content.
Thanks for explaining this trend! I just can’t stand watching people eat on camera (unless it’s Paul and Prue on GBBO, naturally) and I don’t do it on my IG or recipe website. My kids, on the other hand, follow people on IG who eat donuts on their “cheat” day.
Faces & people talking, totally fine, shoving food in your mouth - absolutely not. Its a gross trend, completely unnecessary & really off putting, especially when coupled with the ott reaction. I really wish it would stop!

Thanks for your thought! Everyone needs to forge their own their own path for sure.

Sadly it has to be part of mine - but not to the extent of eating in reels 🫢
This was really interesting and helpful! I guess I need to start showing vids of me eating 🙈
I just can’t bring myself to do it!! But as Ed said, the embarrassment js internal, no one else is really bothered

Oh that’s very kind! I still haven’t eaten on a reel and doubt I ever will!
Good for you!
